Please turn in all application materials simultaneously to:

Spring 2010 Applications Accepted Through October 15, 2009.

Applications will not be accepted or reviewed until they are complete and all supplementary materials are turned in to the Study Abroad Office.

A complete application includes:

  • Completed online Application for Study Abroad (ELF)
  • Official transcript from each college or university and from which you earned at least 10 credits. The quickest way to obtain an official transcript is to pick one up in the Mitchell Building so that you may turn in a complete application.
  • 150-300 word personal statement about yourself and what attracted you to this course. Please demonstrate how participation in this program contributes to your overall academic planning, short- and long-term goals.
  • A letter of recommendation from a University faculty member, TA, or undergraduate advisor.
  • Check or money order for $50 made out to "University of Maryland." This application fee is non-refundable under any circumstances.
  • Completed UM Scholarship Application, if you are planning to apply for one.

Eligibility

The Maryland-in-Shanghai program is open to University of Maryland, College Park, and Towson University undergraduate students who have a serious interest in learning about China. Applicants should be open-minded, flexible, and genuinely interested in learning about other cultures. Students must have at least 24 college credits and a 2.75 cumulative GPA.  

Maryland-in-Shanghai is not open to students from other universities.  Towson University students are eligible to apply.

IMPORTANT: Admissions for the program are made on a rolling basis, and decisions will be given in a timely manner. Early application is advisable. Meeting the minimum GPA requirement alone is insufficient to guarantee admission. All required materials will be considered during the admission process.
