The Study Tour of China is designed to bring students of US real estate exposure to real estate methods and practices in Chine, as well as an enhanced understanding of Chinese history, culture, government and business as they impact real estate development. The course objectives are:
1) To introduce students to the planning, design, social, environmental and financial challenges of real estate development in China and study the cultural and economic background and their perspective on development
2) To familiarize students with the planning, design, historic preservation and development challenges and opportunities of different parts of China
3) To introduce students to the legal and financial structures and economic issues
facing China.
Margaret McFarland, JD is the first Director and Founder of the Master’s in Real Estate Program at the University of Maryland. She practiced Law in the public and the private sectors, including several years with the National Association of Home Builders and just prior to joining the University was General Counsel to the District of Columbia Housing Authority.
Dr. Qing Shen is the Professor and Associate Dean of the School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation at the University of Maryland. He taught Urban Studies and Planning in MIT prior to teaching at University of Maryland.
