UM-Macquarie Partnership Program
Students on the UM-Macquarie Partnership program take all of their courses at Macquarie University, one of the foremost research institutions in Australia.
Students can take courses in any of the following disciplines:
The Australian degree is highly specialized. Therefore, Australian students typically have considerable background in the discipline that they study. American students are encouraged to choose courses accordingly. If a student has a limited background in a discipline, it is best to enroll only in 1000-level courses. Upper level courses demand a high degree of specialization; typically a 2000-level course at Macquarie is equivalent to a 300-level course at UM, and a 3000-level Macquarie course would be considered 400 level at UM.
As UM-Macquarie partnership program students enroll directly in courses at Macquarie University, the program cannot guarantee that there will be enough space in every course requested. Courses may also be cancelled before the start of the semester. Students on the program should, therefore, plan on identifying a number of possible alternate courses in the event that preferences cannot be accommodated.
Interested students may receive a full list of Macquarie courses from an advisor in the Study Abroad Office. Macquarie's academic departments can be viewed here.
The Education Abroad Network, Direct Enrollment, Exchange, and Third Party Provider
The student is responsible for obtaining approval for each course taken abroad by completing the appropriate paperwork for the Study Abroad Office.
At the end of the semester, all grades earned in Australia through any of UM's Study in Australia options will appear as transfer credit on each student's University of Maryland transcript. All accepted students must discuss their course selections with their academic departments in order to determine how courses taken in Australia will count towards graduation requirements.
