Dr. Guenter Pfister
Professor Emeritus of German
Resident Director Fall 2009

In 36 years at the University of Maryland, Dr. Pfister has taught all levels of German language acquisition as well as cultural history.  Pursuing his research in German/American cultural contrasts, he developed the “Cultural Inventory”, a tool that allows us to collect cultural data on an objective level for the purpose of cultural analysis. Incorporating the insights of this research into language and culture classes provides another dimension and depth of understanding of German/American culture and also leads to discussions of the process of constructing a “personal reality”.  Dr. Pfister is looking forward to the Freie Universitaet Berlin providing a stimulating setting for the students’ and this teacher’s endeavors.
