Permission to Study Abroad Paperwork

If you have been accepted into a program administered or sponsored by the University of Maryland, the Program Coordinator and Program Assistant will send you all required paperwork and deadlines (you may skip this page).

If you have been accepted into a program with whom Maryland does not have an agreement or sponsorship, you must meet with your Study Abroad Advisor to start the following paperwork.

  • Permission to Study Abroad Form (PSA) - read PSA instructions.  Please bring printouts of course descriptions for the classes you plan to take while abroad.
  • If applicable, Travel Warning Waiver
  • If you are on financial aid, you also need to bring a breakdown of the costs of your program to complete Financial Aid Paperwork

Your Study Abroad Advisor will indicate how many credits you could potentially transfer to Maryland for each course and review any conditions for credit transfer.

You will then take the PSA to your major (and minor, if applicable) advisor/s so s/he can indicate how the classes would apply towards specific requirements.  Then you will need to meet with your College advisor for final signatures.

You must return to the Study Abroad Office the following:
- Yellow copy of signed PSA
- Printout of ELF Application for Study Abroad
- Travel Warning Waiver (if applicable)

All completed paperwork is due to the Study Abroad Office by
November 15 (Winter term)
December 1 (Spring)
April 15 (Summer)
May 13 (Fall and Full Year)

Study Abroad cannot register you as a study abroad student until all paperwork is received.

There may be other requirements you need to complete for your program (obtaining a student visa, applying for housing, etc.), but once you turn in your PSA and forms, you can be assured that the University of Maryland will register you as a study abroad student for the term you will be away.

Next, be sure to attend your Pre-Departure Orientation.
