Maryland-in-Alcalá students can choose to pursue a local internship as part of their academic experience. Students interested in this option will need to submit a resume by November, so that the university staff can seek relevant placements. Interns need to work for a total of 135 hours and will also need to submit a number of written assignments (to be graded by the Resident Director) in order to receive credit for SPAN386 Experiential Learning.
As all of the courses taught at Alcalingua (Spanish language, civilization and theater/cinema) end by the middle of March, internship students typically begin their internship after their Alcalingua courses end. This means that internship students will have the following schedule:
Jan - Mid-March
Mid-March to End of April
In the Spring of 2004, two students, David Wells and Carolyn Wiedel, participated on Alcalá's internship program.
