Michelle Brane of the Women’s Commission for Refugee Women and Children spoke to our returning study abroad students at the Welcome Back Reception Fall 2008. Study Abroad Fee to go into effect January 2009
Starting in January 2009, students who enroll in non-UM programs for semester study abroad will be charged a $400 fee. Students who enroll in exchange programs for study abroad or in non-UM programs for Winter Term or Summer will be charged a $250 fee per program. This charge will appear directly on student accounts. Students who attend Maryland sponsored semester programs and short term programs currently pay a study abroad fee as part of the overall program cost so no additional charge will appear on their account.
Permission to Study Abroad forms Due May 13!
If you are going abroad on a non-University of Maryland study abroad program, don't forget to turn in your Permission to Study Abroad (PSA) forms by the last day of classes, Tuesday, May 13! Our office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 - 4:30, so please turn in your PSA as soon as possible.
Summer Study Abroad Pre-Departure Orientations
If you are spending your summer on a UM short term study abroad program, please remember that our mandatory pre-departure orientations will take place on May 5 and May 6 from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. in 0135 Armory. You only need to attend one session, so choose which day you would like to attend. These orientations are separate from any program-specific orientation that your Faculty Director might have scheduled.
Deadline Extended for UM's Semester Programs in London, Berlin and Denmark!
Want to spend a semester in Europe? Then you're in luck - our fall semester deadlines have been extended! Visit our Semester Programs Website for the updated deadlines and to apply. But hurry, as the programs are filling up quickly!

You will take classes with local students at the Free University of Berlin, one of the premier institutions in Germany. Maryland-in-London Information Session - Tuesday, April 8
Join Study Abroad staff and alumni for tea and crumpets on April 8 from 4 – 5 p.m. in 1108 Holzapfel Hall. This brief information session will discuss the Maryland-in-London Fall 2008 program. We will answer questions about housing, academics, internships and what it’s like to live in London for a semester! Improve your French, live on the Mediterranean coast, and participate in an optional homestay on our Maryland-in-Nice program. MANDATORY Non-UM Pre-Departure Orientation
