On Tuesday, April 24, the Confucius Institute at University of Maryland (CIM) held a meeting focusing on enhancing its external relations with the business community and building connections between the Confucius Institute and the Maryland local community.
Dr. Chuan-sheng Liu, Director of CIM, introduced hosts and guests to each other. He briefly addressed that the aim of this meeting was to seek advice to expand the outreach of CIM and strengthen the connection between CIM and local community.
Dr. Saul Sosnowski, Director of Office of International Programs in University of Maryland, gave the welcome remark. Afterwards, Mr. Brodie Remington, Vice-President of University of Maryland, gave a speech on Great Expectations Campaign- The University of Maryland, A World-Class Institution. Then, Dr. Liu gave an overview of the mission of CIM, its current state and its strategic future directions. He hoped the local business leaders would assist CIM in promoting Chinese language and culture in Maryland.
The business leaders actively exchanged their opinions in how CIMmight expand its influence and reach out to the local community, especially public schools. They also offer ideas on how to attract resources. Finally, officers were selected and a nominating committee was formed for the future.
