The University of Maryland is truly a global campus, which places a high value on its worldwide reach and impact. UM's formal partnerships with universities and governments overseas now number more than 250; its faculty hail from over 130 countries; it is consistently named among the top 25 universities welcoming international students; and its President's Promise initiative strives to provide an international experience - whether via study abroad, an overseas internship, international service learning, or a campus-based intercultural learning program - for every UM student.
OIP's mission is to enhance the international activities and character of UM, by acting as the interface for students and faculty going abroad/coming to College Park; encouraging, advising, assisting, and coordinating the international components of UM academic units, programs and initiatives; offering travel & study abroad course development grants and awards for outstanding international achievement; and organizing programming to internationalize the outlook of UM students, faculty and staff, to ultimately bring the resources of UM to the world.
