Oral Communication

Advanced Oral Communication Skills (UMEI008) is a two-semester course for International Teaching Assistant (ITAs) who have taken the MEI ITA evaluation and placed into the course on the basis of their scores on this exam. The curriculum is designed to assist students in increasing their overall ability to communicate effectively in spoken English for teaching purposes. The class meets two hours per day, two days per week during the fall and spring semesters (it is not offered in summer). While the course bears no credit, it is the equivalent of 2 credits (4 units). Tuition is $1,253. UM tuition remission may not be applied to this course.

Enrollment in this course is limited to 15. Priority is given to International Teaching Assistants who have been formally appointed, completed the ITA evaluation, and placed into the course on the basis of their results on the evaluation. ITAs should enroll in the course as soon as possible. Prospective ITAs (students whose appointment as a TA is pending) and non-ITAs may enroll in the course on the last day to add classes if space is available.
