International Spouse Orientation

In support of our international student and scholar families, the Office of International Education Services (IES) schedules this orientation program to introduce international spouses and children to the University of Maryland. This hour-long event is an opportunity for our newly-arrived and veteran families to meet each other. It is also an occasion to share information about:

• Campus and community resources
• Informal English-language conversation groups
• Volunteer opportunities that will help spouses build networks within their new community
• People, places, and events of the greater Washington, DC area.

Among other things, we will be distributing a packet with general information about:

• The University of Maryland, College Park and some of its major facilities (e.g., the UMCP Health Center, the Campus Recreation Center, the Stamp Student Union, etc.)
• The Office of International Education Services and the IES International Coffee Hour
• Local Transportation
• Safety & Security
• Child Day Care
• Housing
• Shopping
